Cricket jargon - one of the ways in which a batsman can be given out. It occurs when a ball strikes his leg and in the umpire's opinion would have continued to hit the wicket. The rule is complex and there are various factors for the umpire to consider. Leg before wicket is often abbreviated to lbw.
